Raising Literacy and Oracy Through Film

This session will explore exciting approaches to teach literacy through film and present a range of engaging activities to try out with your learners. We’ll introduce you to a key framework, which will help you to break analysis down into manageable chunks for your learners. You’ll take part in fun literacy-focused activities, using highlights from engaging short films while also developing your knowledge of the basic elements of film. Along the way, you’ll discover how film can be a powerful tool for supporting oracy – helping learners to build their confidence in speaking, listening, and expressing their ideas clearly. You’ll come away with some great ideas to help learners develop their comprehension, analytical, creative writing, and spoken language skills – all through the excitement of film. After the session, you’ll have access to the session presentation which includes film highlights and ready-made activities that you can run with your learners.

  • SAM CROME

    "Connecting with your team"

    Tuesday 3rd March 2026
    4pm - 5pm
    Virtual Session

Suitable for: Leadership Teams (Primary & Secondary)

I’m Sam Crome, an Education leader passionate about how teams thrive, perform, and grow together.

I am Director of Education, Mission and People for Xavier Catholic Education Trust, and essentially my job involves providing both strategic vision and planning, alongside day-to-day school support, so that all children and staff in our schools can flourish. Our trust’s schools are high-performing and exceptional places for children to learn, and these outcomes are built upon a strong foundation of belonging, shared vision, and a culture of both love and high expectations of one another.

I have been a Senior Leader in two outstanding schools that consistently achieve outcomes in the top 1% nationally, and have been a Deputy Headteacher for the last five years.

Over the last 5 years, I have been compelled to understand, research, explore, and interview high-performing teams. I’m certain that teams are the way to improve our workload, productivity, professional learning, performance, and the joy we can experience at work!

Sadly, teams are often neglected when it comes to the aims or priorities of an organisation.

Join me, as I continue to explore what helps team thrive and perform their best.
