David Fountain set up and leads a peer support group on Facebook that has attracted over 30,000 subscribers and continues to grow by word-of-mouth from teaching colleagues across the country. He has produced and published over 50 videos to explain various aspects of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, shining a light on aspects of the scheme that can make a significant difference to many. He is known for his ability to take complex aspects of the pension scheme and explain them in layman’s language.

David started a campaign in 2020 to allow for a £1 change in pay to counter the negative impact made on pensions during a pay freeze. This campaign was taken up by ASCL, NAHT, NEU, NASUWT and the then Voice Community Unions resulting in the DFE agreeing that this could be implemented.

David is NOT a financial advisor and sells nothing related to pension schemes or other investments. David is driven by his desire to help teachers understand and navigate their pensions and avoid making mistakes, some of which he made himself. This allows him to answer questions without fear or favour. His fee for today covers his expenses and donations to charities, currently “Education Support”, “Pilgrims Hospices” and “The Rockinghorse Children’s”.

A secondary teacher of mathematics, science and IT since 1990 he has been a Head of Year, Director of Assessment and was the Head of IT at Astor College in Dover until he left in 2017
