ITT - What to expect

We have worked closely with the University of Warwick for many years and have trained mentors in all subject areas. Our Training School provides professional support for our trainees and gives them access to a full Continuing Professional Development programme that is personalised to their needs. What you can expect training with us at Finham Park School:

As a trainee hosted by a school within The Lion Alliance, you will:

  • be assigned a skilled and trained subject mentor who you will have weekly meetings with
  • have free access to FROG Connect, an online training portal that helps you track all your training provision and records
  • support mentor / tutor groups alongside an experienced teacher
  • have a timetable, planned to meet your individual course needs
  • be provided with a laptop for planning and lesson delivery
  • be supported by Teaching School staff
  • have access to a training library
  • be involved with wider CPD programme across The Lion Alliance

First day of placement

  • Parking is available on all school sites
  • Please report to your school's reception on arrival
  • Please bring Photo ID and CRB check
  • Wear appropriate professional, business attire

A typical school day of a trainee teacher

  • 8:00-8.30 Arrive in school and sign in before going to department area
  • 8.40-8.50 Morning briefing
  • 8.50-9.05 Mentor / tutor time (pastoral activities)
  • 9.05-10.05 Weekly mentor meeting (discussion and activities around whole school issues)
  • 10.05-11.05 Observation (watching another teacher's lesson, observing for good practice, behaviour management, learning activities)
  • 11.05-11.25 Break time (an opportunity to meet other staff in the school / department)
  • 11.25-12.25 Preparation time (lesson planning, meeting with other teachers, creating resources)
  • 12.25-1:00 Lunch time
  • 1:00-2:00 Teaching (your timetable develops as your classroom confidence and skills level grow)
  • 2:00-3:00 Lesson reflection and evaluation (time to discuss with your mentor, or complete personal reflection)
  • 3:00 School finishes
  • (3:00-4.00 School meeting)
